A day of treasures.
In my bleary eyed typing of a blog post yesterday, I completely forgot that it was Exaltation of the Cross Sunday. Which is my second favorite non-feast day Sunday after Good Shepherd Sunday.
It is so much my favorite because it encompasses the mystery of our lives: that we are to exalt the tortured suffering and death of a man. But it is this suffering that would lead to the ultimate joy: eternal life in God for man. And we too are called to this same embrace of our own crosses in life. Whether they be dealing with irritating co-workers, a tantruming two-year old (gee, where did I get that example?), or the biggees like illness and major disappointments. We are to imitate Christ and embrace these sufferings. By doing so, we become like Christ, and resurrect in his joy.
What wonder. What contradiction. What happiness.
Okay, and then I wanted to tell you about Ana's all time favorite snack. It is so easy and so healthy for her. PLUS, all you mom's and dad's, I guarantee you won't be able to stop eating it too. Just go and git yourself a couple of sweet potatoes at the store (or grow them, whatever), cut them up into 1/5 inch cubes, drizzle with olive oil and some sea salt (or regular salt, what have you), and roast them at 400 for 30 minutes. Maybe stir them a few times during the roasting so they brown evenly.
I tell you, these do not last more than an hour in our house. Even DAN likes them. He called them "delicious," I kid you not.
Oh, and lastly. Ana and I went to see our midwife today and heard the little baby's heartbeat. I am always so preoccupied with Ana, that I didn't even think about it until I heard it. I tiny little soul growing in my womb. The tenderness of the moment took me by surprise. What a treasure.
